Why do I hate Twitter?

I hate twitter for several reasons. Its content, looks and its hype. It is an overrated internet product with no useful content generated whatsoever. For instance, how useful is it to fill web by zillion of tweets like “having my dinner…Chicken it is! …Yay!!”? and, how annoying it is to get this as search result when you are searching for something very important?

It’s a hype that “everybody tweets nowadays”. No, everybody do not tweet, they are just registered to this service and they are sleeping. Only fraction of tweeters(tweetees is it?) you follow tweet in regular frequency and only fraction of their followers read what has been tweeted. Further only a fractions of those followers are going to retweet it or reply to it or click a link you asked them to click.

Contents, they are utterly useless. I generalise them to be generated by those who do not have enough substance to write blog posts. People really don’t care on what is happening in your life on real-time basis unless you are a hot celebrity or one with a hot girlfriend. If you want to write something seriously and want people to read it, there are forums for that purpose. Blogs are wonderful things when it comes to expressing opinions. You can always push RSS feeds or email newsletters to get attention. Twitter is worst invention to do this.

Anyways, this was just an opinion till I came across the statistics to aid my dislike towards this application. Information is Beautiful presents exactly the same information with more accurate data. Enjoy🙂

  1. Wonderful post Bach!🙂
I fully agree with you & the graphical interpretation of the facts above. But, somehow, I am addicted to it now & having fun. I give least importance to the info or facts those pop up there -its just a media for having some fun (at least for me)😀

  2. Never thought of it this way… actually Bach a lot of bloggers share weather report, news, information and their blog updates on twitter. I see twitter as a place to find interesting links for my blog, I learnt about boobquakes, bachcha baazi in Afghanistan, a child bride dying in Yemen, Muthalik’s willingness to start a riot for cash (by Tehelka)…

When I needed to know how to get screen shots on MacBook, I tweeted and soon there were some tweets with information and links. It’s like a fast grapevine🙂

Another time I found twitter a blessing was when I got a tweet that my entire blog was being copy pasted on another blog. I tweeted about what I could do to stop the plagiarism and immediately through tweets and retweets there was support and information.

At first I also saw twitter as mere updates about one’s meals and the daily weather (nothing wrong with that, I do that too ;p) – but I guess it can be used in many other ways too.

    1. I get your point. but I still disagree.

On news , i feel nothing is better than google reader. I can organise based on tags and category.

I am happy that you could tap some use out of twitter. But don’t you think, same could have been achieved more effectively ? Digg ? Yahoo answers ? They also provide valuable news and important tools on internet with tags and categories.

I agree that it can be used for something very useful. But look at statistics i have shown!!
I think i will need lot of experience and training before i can distinguish between useful ones and those are not.
