cool picture!
Mahabalipuram seems to be a good place for a 3 day visit.
actually dhaari or dhara is used to a person who has owned it or worn it.
For eg., Gaja charmabhara, just a thought! ashTe…
krishna has lifted the giri(beTTa) so giridhaari is a right combo I am not too sure, but ya.. Giridhar is a name used in hindu mythology..
Cool post man, may the god bless you again
Nice shots, Bach
The story goes something like this :
In Nandagrama/Gokula(Nandagopa is the name of head of the village who played surrogate father for Krishna), people resorted to agriculture after Balarama(elder brother of Krishna) and Krishna were involved in it.
You may observe Balarama is pictured always with a plough(hal/negilu) and Krishna with cattle(gomatha).
For agriculture the gramvasis solely depended on the rain gods to shower from heaven. So, to please Indra(the rain god), they would perform Indra-havan every year.
One fine day people getting ready for the havan(yagna) dutifully, Krishna, observing that Indra had not showered rains the last year, asked his father, Nanda Gopa not to perform havan, and he strongly commended that its Indra’s duty to give us good rains if we perform our duties peacefully… Thus the villagers stopped the preperations for yagna.
Angered by these happenings, Indra showered from heavens the rains that brought about a severe floods in the region. All started blaming Krishna for his un mature thoughts and cattle were being the severely hit by this stupid act of Indra.
Krishna asked them all to keep peace and he lifts Govardhana giri with his left hand’s little finger, with ease. This govardhana giri acts as an umbrella for the whole village, villagers and cattle.
Indra could do no more harm to these people as Krishna was on their side and surrenders to Krishna finally.
Since then, Govardhana giri is a symbol of grit and truthfulness. All Krishna indicates with this act is if one is dutiful and truthful in his deeds, he need not be afraid of any person, even if the person in consideration is powerful!!
Thanks Bach for the wonderful pictures.
And in the story above, by duties, Krishna meant, feeding teh children, old people and cattle. He was of the opinion that first comes duties towards these things and next is the duty of thanking Gods/worshipping. That is depicted so well in this story.
And an update :
Indra surrendered to Krishna and suggested that people worship Govardhana giri instead of Indra himself, because it provided them with protection from invasions.
Govardhan giri is believed to be located in Vraj area in Gujrat, till date
